WELCOME TO THE MONARCH VILLA AND THE MACHANGULO RESERVE
The MONARCH BEACH VILLA was built as a private family sanctuary by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands prior to his coronation. The Machangulo Reserve includes a 15 mile private beach, and 7000 acres of coastal jungle, located just north of The Maputo Elephant Park, across the bay from Maputo.

ARRIVE AND RECOVER
After your arrival at the Maputo airport, you travel by taxi to the Southern Sun Hotel, a five star hotel located on the beach of Maputo Bay. A perfect opportunity to recover from your flight while enjoying this bespoke hotel with its spa, pool, fine restaurant, exercise room, and skilled service.

ARRIVAL AT THE MONARCH

Enjoy a scenic Boat trip across Maputo Bay to Santa Maria, in Machangulo, where you will be greeted with a Caipirinha at Bemugi's beach bar before being driven to the Monarch Villa. Begin your adventure by exploring your new home and environs.

SAFARI AT THE ELEPHANT RESERVE
Thursday July 17th, 2025
This day starts early, as we take you on a full day safari in the Maputo Elephant Reserve. The unique population of Elephants here are notably different than the elephants elsewhere in Africa, darker in color. In addition, you can expect to see impala, wildebeest, kudu, Ayala, giraffe, zebra, reebok, duiker, hippopotami, crocodiles, Cape buffalo, and a wide variety of birds and other fauna. A champagne picnic lunch will also be included.

RIDE THE WIND THE OLD WAY
Friday July 18th, 2025
Today adventure awaits, as to will enjoy a ride by way of a locally operated dhow sailboat across Maputo bay to the town of Inhaca at the north end of the island, where you will tour the island, including the historic lighthouse, shop for souvenirs and local crafts and seashells, discover local culture, and enjoy a special meal at Luca's restaurant, all included in your trip.

This day belongs to you. Enjoy your day on the beach, at the pool, exploring the dunes, or read a book from our library as you savor your last day. Let our staff serve you, or let our concierge arrange a special outing for you such as off shore fishing, scuba diving, or other available activities which can be booked on your behalf.
